Valentines Day Pretzel Bark: Easy Recipe & Fun Variations

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 30-40 pieces 1x

Description

Festive Valentine’s Day pretzel bark with chocolate-covered pretzels, sprinkles, freeze-dried strawberries, and M&Ms. A sweet and salty treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 16 oz white chocolate chips
  • 1 (12 oz) bag of pretzel rods
  • 1/2 cup Valentine’s Day themed sprinkles (hearts, pink, red, white)
  • 1/4 cup crushed freeze-dried strawberries
  • 1/4 cup mini M&M’s (Valentine’s Day colors)
  • 1/4 cup red and pink sugar crystals
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening (for smoother chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Melt semi-sweet chocolate in a double boiler or microwave. For double boiler, simmer water in the bottom pot, place chocolate in the top, and stir until smooth. For microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted.
  2. Stir in 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening into the melted semi-sweet chocolate for a smoother finish.
  3. Melt white chocolate using the same method as the semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  4. Stir in 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening into the melted white chocolate for a smoother finish.
  5. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  6. Dip about half of the pretzel rods into the melted semi-sweet chocolate, coating about two-thirds of the pretzel. Use a fork to help coat evenly and remove excess chocolate.
  7. Place the chocolate-covered pretzel rods onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Dip the remaining pretzel rods into the melted white chocolate, coating about two-thirds of the pretzel.
  9. Place the white chocolate-covered pretzel rods onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each pretzel.
  10. While the semi-sweet chocolate is still wet, immediately sprinkle the pretzels with Valentine’s Day themed sprinkles, crushed freeze-dried strawberries, mini M&M’s, and red and pink sugar crystals.
  11. Repeat the same process with the white chocolate-covered pretzels.
  12. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes, or in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes, to allow the chocolate to set completely.
  13. Once the chocolate is completely set, remove the baking sheet from the refrigerator or freezer.
  14. Gently break the pretzel rods into smaller pieces.
  15. Store the Valentine’s Day pretzel bark in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • Be careful not to let water get into the chocolate when melting, as it can cause it to seize.
  • White chocolate is more prone to burning, so microwave in shorter intervals and stir frequently.
  • Adding vegetable shortening is optional but recommended for a smoother, glossier chocolate finish.
  • Decorate the pretzels immediately after dipping while the chocolate is still wet.
  • Store in an airtight container to prevent melting or absorbing odors.
