These savory teriyaki meatballs combine ground beef or turkey with fresh ginger and green onions, all coated in a rich teriyaki sauce. Ideal as an appetizer or served over rice for a complete meal, they are easy to customize and freeze well for later enjoyment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water (if using cornstarch)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Additional green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey) with the breadcrumbs.
  2. Add the finely chopped green onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the bowl.
  3. Crack the egg into the mixture.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce and sesame oil.
  5. Season with black pepper and salt.
  6. Mix everything together until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  8. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil.
  9. Carefully add the meatballs to the skillet, cooking in batches if necessary.
  10. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and cooked through.
  11. Transfer cooked meatballs to a plate lined with paper towels.
  12. In a small saucepan, pour in the teriyaki sauce. If using cornstarch, mix it with water until smooth and add to the saucepan.
  13. Heat the sauce over medium heat, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  14. Remove from heat and adjust flavor if desired.
  15. Place the cooked meatballs in a serving bowl or platter.
  16. Drizzle the teriyaki sauce over the meatballs.
  17. Garnish with sesame seeds and additional chopped green onions.
  18. Serve immediately.
