Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box of yellow cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box: eggs, water, and oil)
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup of your favorite flavored syrup (strawberry, chocolate, caramel, etc.)
- 1 tub (8 ounces) whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
- 1 cup of fresh fruit or chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)
- Sprinkles or nuts for added texture (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix with the ingredients listed on the box (typically eggs, water, and oil). Mix until well combined, but avoid overmixing; a few lumps are okay.
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake the cake for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Keep an eye on it towards the end to avoid overbaking.
- Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes.
- After the cake has cooled slightly, use the handle of a wooden spoon or a skewer to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk and your chosen flavored syrup.
- Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk mixture over the poked cake, ensuring it seeps into all the holes.
- Cover the cake with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is best).
- Prepare any additional toppings or garnishes while the cake is chilling.
- Once chilled, stir the whipped topping to make it fluffy.
- Spread the whipped topping evenly over the top of the cake.
- Use a piping bag for decorative swirls if desired.
- Sprinkle fresh fruit generously over the whipped topping.
- Add chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or nuts for extra texture and flavor.
- Cover the cake again and return it to the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- When ready to serve, take the cake out of the refrigerator and slice into squares. Enjoy!
