  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 80 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

This cheesesteak-inspired meatloaf features a savory blend of ground beef and pork, Italian seasonings, sautéed vegetables, and melted provolone cheese, all topped with a creamy cheese sauce. It’s a comforting and hearty dish perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Cheez Whiz or cheese sauce (optional, for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork.
  2. Add the breadcrumbs to the meat mixture.
  3. Pour in the milk.
  4. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and green bell pepper until soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  6. Let the cooked vegetables cool slightly before adding them to the meat mixture.
  7. Add the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, oregano, and thyme. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  8. Fold in the shredded provolone cheese.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
  11. Transfer the meat mixture onto the prepared baking sheet or into the loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf about 2 inches high. Create a slight indentation on the top.
  12. Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  13. About 10 minutes before the meatloaf is finished, if using Cheez Whiz or cheese sauce, remove it from the oven and spread it evenly over the top. Return to the oven and continue baking until bubbly and golden brown.
  14. Once done, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  15. Slice the meatloaf into thick pieces, about 1-inch thick.
  16. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
  17. Serve with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a simple salad.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using fresh herbs instead of dried.
  • You can substitute the provolone cheese with other cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar if desired.
  • Leftover meatloaf can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
