Passion Fruit Iced Tea: The Ultimate Refreshing Summer Drink

  • Total Time: 145 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

Refreshing and tangy Passion Fruit Iced Tea with fresh pulp, black tea, and lemon. Perfect for a hot day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 black tea bags
  • 1 cup passion fruit pulp (from about 68 passion fruits, depending on size)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Optional garnishes: passion fruit slices, lemon wedges, mint sprigs

Instructions

  1. Make the Simple Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Place over medium heat and stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. Brew the Black Tea: In a separate saucepan or heat-safe pitcher, bring the remaining 5 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the 6 black tea bags. Let steep for 5-7 minutes, depending on desired strength. Remove tea bags, squeezing gently to extract flavor. Allow tea to cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the Passion Fruit Pulp: Cut each passion fruit in half. Scoop out the pulp and seeds from each half into a bowl. Measure out 1 cup of passion fruit pulp. Strain if desired.
  4. Combine and Chill: In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, brewed tea, passion fruit pulp, and lemon juice. Stir well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  5. Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the Passion Fruit Iced Tea over the ice. Garnish with passion fruit slices, lemon wedges, and/or mint sprigs, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by reducing sugar in the simple syrup.
  • Experiment with different types of tea (green, white, herbal).
  • Add other fruits like strawberries, raspberries, or peaches.
  • Make it sparkling with sparkling water or club soda.
  • Add ginger or cinnamon to the simple syrup for a spicy flavor.
  • Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Look for passion fruits that are heavy for their size and have slightly wrinkled skin.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor.
  • Use high-quality tea bags from a reputable brand.
  • Use filtered water to make your ice cubes for the purest flavor.
