Nutella Truffles: Easy Recipe for Decadent Chocolate Treats

  • Total Time: 147 minutes
  • Yield: 24 truffles 1x

Description

Decadent, easy Nutella truffles! Rich chocolate ganache infused with Nutella, rolled, and coated in your favorite toppings. Perfect for gifts, parties, or a chocolate fix.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (about 6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional coatings: cocoa powder, powdered sugar, chopped nuts (hazelnuts recommended), sprinkles, melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. In a heat-safe bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler), combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Make sure the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth (5-7 minutes). Alternatively, melt in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between.
  2. Remove from heat. Add softened butter and stir until fully incorporated.
  3. Add Nutella and salt. Stir until evenly combined and smooth.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it onto the surface. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, until firm enough to scoop.
  5. Use a small cookie scoop or spoon to scoop out portions of the chilled ganache (about 1 tablespoon per truffle).
  6. Gently roll each portion between your palms to form a smooth ball. If the ganache becomes too soft, return it to the refrigerator for a few minutes.
  7. Place the formed truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill them in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
  8. Place your chosen coatings in separate shallow bowls or plates. If using melted chocolate, melt according to package directions.
  9. One at a time, roll each truffle in your chosen coating until evenly covered. If using melted chocolate, use a fork or dipping tools to dip the truffles into the chocolate, then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet to set.
  10. Place the coated truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill them in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to allow the coatings to set.

Notes

  • Ganache Consistency: Chilling time is crucial. Don’t rush it!
  • Coating Options: Get creative with your coatings! Cocoa powder, powdered sugar, chopped nuts, sprinkles, or melted chocolate all work well.
  • Liqueur Addition: Add a tablespoon or two of your favorite liqueur (Frangelico recommended) to the ganache for an adult twist.
  • Vegan Option: Use vegan chocolate chips, vegan butter, and a plant-based alternative to heavy cream.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Ganache too soft: Chill longer.
    • Ganache too hard: Let sit at room temperature for a few minutes.
    • Truffles melting: Return to the refrigerator to firm up.
    • Coatings not sticking: Make sure truffles are slightly chilled.
