  • Total Time: 270 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

Indulge in this rich and creamy no-bake chocolate mousse that’s light, airy, and perfect for any occasion. With a blend of whipped cream and fluffy egg whites, this dessert is a chocolate lover’s dream!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate: Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth (about 1 to 1.5 minutes). Be careful not to overheat.
  2. Cool the Chocolate: Set the melted chocolate aside to cool slightly.
  3. Whip the Egg Yolks: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar until pale and creamy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the Chocolate: Slowly pour in the melted chocolate while whisking continuously. Add vanilla extract and salt, mixing until combined.
  5. Whip the Egg Whites: In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form (3-4 minutes). Gradually add powdered sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  6. Fold in the Egg Whites: Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions, being careful not to deflate them.
  7. Whip the Cream: In a large bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream on medium-high speed until soft peaks form (3-5 minutes).
  8. Combine with Chocolate Mixture: Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture in two additions.
  9. Assemble the Dessert: Spoon the mousse into serving dishes, layering if desired.
  10. Chill the Mousse: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  11. Garnish: Before serving, add chocolate shavings or cocoa powder on top for garnish.

Notes

  • Ensure the chocolate is warm but not hot when mixing with the egg yolks to prevent scrambling.
  • Be gentle when folding in the egg whites and whipped cream to maintain the mousse’s light texture.
  • This mousse can be made a day in advance for better flavor development.
