  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy a refreshing Mango Lassi, a creamy blend of ripe mangoes, yogurt, and a touch of cardamom. This traditional Indian drink is perfect for hot days or as a sweet treat, offering a delicious and nutritious experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (preferably whole milk yogurt for creaminess)
  • 1/2 cup milk (you can use whole, skim, or almond milk)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust based on the sweetness of the mangoes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to enhance the mango flavor)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by selecting two ripe mangoes. You want them to be slightly soft to the touch, which indicates they are sweet and juicy.
  2. Using a sharp knife, carefully peel the mangoes. You can slice off the skin in long strips or use a vegetable peeler.
  3. Cut the mango flesh away from the pit and slice it into cubes for easier blending.
  4. Place the diced mangoes into a bowl and set them aside.
  5. In a blender, add the diced mangoes.
  6. Add 1 cup of plain yogurt to the blender.
  7. Pour in 1/2 cup of milk to help thin out the mixture.
  8. Add 1/4 cup of sugar, adjusting based on the sweetness of the mangoes.
  9. If desired, sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom.
  10. Squeeze in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to brighten the flavors.
  11. Secure the lid on your blender and blend on high speed for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth and creamy.
  12. Stop the blender and scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. Blend again for a few more seconds.
  13. Taste the lassi and adjust sweetness if necessary by adding more sugar and blending again.
  14. Transfer the blended mango lassi into a pitcher or a large bowl.
  15. Cover with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  16. For immediate serving, pour the lassi into glasses with ice cubes.
  17. Fill chilled glasses with the mango lassi. If using ice cubes, add them first before pouring in the lassi.
  18. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust the sugar based on the sweetness of the mangoes.
  • For a vegan version, use plant-based yogurt and milk.
  • Feel free to experiment with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg for a unique twist.
