Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Optional: chocolate or caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the active dry yeast to the milk mixture. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  4. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add the melted butter and eggs. Mix well until combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  6. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
  7. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  8. Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release air.
  9. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  10. Shape each piece into a ball by tucking the edges underneath.
  11. Place the dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  12. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
  13. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  14. Optionally, brush the tops of the buns with melted butter for a golden finish.
  15. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid over-baking.
  16. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
  17. In a mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream (ensure the bowl is cold).
  18. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the cream.
  19. Whip the mixture until soft peaks form.
  20. Once the buns are cool, slice them in half horizontally.
  21. Fill each bun with the whipped cream filling.
  22. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with chocolate or caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • For best results, use cold equipment when whipping the cream.
  • These buns are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
