Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Optional: chocolate or caramel sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the active dry yeast to the milk mixture. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add the melted butter and eggs. Mix well until combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release air.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball by tucking the edges underneath.
- Place the dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between them.
- Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Optionally, brush the tops of the buns with melted butter for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid over-baking.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
- In a mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream (ensure the bowl is cold).
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the cream.
- Whip the mixture until soft peaks form.
- Once the buns are cool, slice them in half horizontally.
- Fill each bun with the whipped cream filling.
- Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with chocolate or caramel sauce if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- For best results, use cold equipment when whipping the cream.
- These buns are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
