Air Fryer Churro Bites: Easy Recipe & Crispy Perfection

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 24-36 churro bites 1x

Description

Air fryer churro bites: crispy, golden, and coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect for dipping!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce

Instructions

  1. Combine Water, Butter, and Salt: In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, and salt. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Make sure the butter is completely melted before it starts boiling.
  2. Add the Flour: Once the mixture is boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat. Immediately add all the flour at once. Using a wooden spoon or a sturdy spatula, stir vigorously until the flour is fully incorporated and a smooth dough forms. It should pull away from the sides of the pan and form a ball.
  3. Cool the Dough Slightly: Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Add the Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough will look a little curdled at first, but don’t worry, it will come together.
  5. Add Vanilla Extract: Once all the eggs are incorporated, add the vanilla extract and mix until just combined. The dough should be smooth, glossy, and pipeable.
  6. Prepare a Piping Bag: Fit a piping bag with a large star tip.
  7. Fill the Piping Bag: Carefully transfer the churro dough to the piping bag. Twist the top of the bag to seal it.
  8. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Prepare the Air Fryer Basket: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  10. Pipe the Churro Bites: Carefully pipe the churro dough into the preheated air fryer basket. Pipe short lengths, about 1-2 inches long. Leave some space between each churro bite to allow for proper air circulation.
  11. Air Fry: Air fry for 6-8 minutes, or until the churro bites are golden brown and crispy.
  12. Remove and Cool: Once the churro bites are cooked, carefully remove them from the air fryer basket and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly.
  13. Repeat: Repeat the process with the remaining dough, working in batches as needed.
  14. Combine Sugar and Cinnamon: In a shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Mix well until evenly combined.
  15. Coat the Churro Bites: While the churro bites are still warm (but not too hot to handle), toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Make sure they are evenly coated on all sides.
  16. Serve Warm: Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket; work in batches.
  • Adjust cooking time as needed, as air fryers vary.
  • Let the dough cool slightly before adding the eggs to prevent them from cooking.
  • Churro bites are best served warm.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. Reheat in the air fryer to restore crispness.
  • Get creative with variations by adding different spices to the cinnamon sugar mixture or filling the churro bites before air frying.
