Description
Air fryer churro bites: crispy, golden, and coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect for dipping!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce
Instructions
- Combine Water, Butter, and Salt: In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, and salt. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Make sure the butter is completely melted before it starts boiling.
- Add the Flour: Once the mixture is boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat. Immediately add all the flour at once. Using a wooden spoon or a sturdy spatula, stir vigorously until the flour is fully incorporated and a smooth dough forms. It should pull away from the sides of the pan and form a ball.
- Cool the Dough Slightly: Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.
- Add the Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough will look a little curdled at first, but don’t worry, it will come together.
- Add Vanilla Extract: Once all the eggs are incorporated, add the vanilla extract and mix until just combined. The dough should be smooth, glossy, and pipeable.
- Prepare a Piping Bag: Fit a piping bag with a large star tip.
- Fill the Piping Bag: Carefully transfer the churro dough to the piping bag. Twist the top of the bag to seal it.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the Air Fryer Basket: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
- Pipe the Churro Bites: Carefully pipe the churro dough into the preheated air fryer basket. Pipe short lengths, about 1-2 inches long. Leave some space between each churro bite to allow for proper air circulation.
- Air Fry: Air fry for 6-8 minutes, or until the churro bites are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and Cool: Once the churro bites are cooked, carefully remove them from the air fryer basket and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Repeat: Repeat the process with the remaining dough, working in batches as needed.
- Combine Sugar and Cinnamon: In a shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Mix well until evenly combined.
- Coat the Churro Bites: While the churro bites are still warm (but not too hot to handle), toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Make sure they are evenly coated on all sides.
- Serve Warm: Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket; work in batches.
- Adjust cooking time as needed, as air fryers vary.
- Let the dough cool slightly before adding the eggs to prevent them from cooking.
- Churro bites are best served warm.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. Reheat in the air fryer to restore crispness.
- Get creative with variations by adding different spices to the cinnamon sugar mixture or filling the churro bites before air frying.
