Description
Crispy and delicious air fryer apple fries! A healthy and easy snack or dessert made with fresh apples, cinnamon, and a touch of sweetness. Perfect with caramel sauce, whipped cream, or ice cream!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 medium-sized Granny Smith apples (or your favorite firm apple variety)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Optional: Caramel sauce, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream for serving
- Optional: Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Wash and Prep the Apples: Wash apples under cold water and pat dry.
- Core and Slice: Core each apple and slice into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Stack rounds and slice into 1/4-inch thick “fries.”
- Prevent Browning: Toss apple fries with lemon juice in a medium bowl.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt (if using).
- Coat the Apple Fries: Add apple fries to the bowl with the flour mixture and toss gently until evenly coated. Shake off excess.
- Drizzle with Melted Butter: Drizzle melted butter over the coated apple fries and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Preheat the Air Fryer (if necessary): Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) if required by your model.
- Arrange in Air Fryer Basket: Arrange apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Keep cooked fries warm in a preheated oven (around 200°F or 93°C) until all the batches are done.
- Air Fry: Air fry for 8-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until tender and golden brown.
- Check for Doneness: Check for doneness. They should be tender when pierced with a fork and have a slightly crispy exterior. If they’re not quite done, continue air frying for a few more minutes, checking frequently, until they reach your desired level of crispness.
- Remove and Cool Slightly: Remove from air fryer and place on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Optional Toppings: Prepare toppings like caramel sauce, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.
- Serve Immediately: Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work best.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket.
- Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer and apple thickness.
- A pinch of salt enhances the sweetness.
- Experiment with spices like ginger, cardamom, or allspice.
- Use parchment paper (perforated) for easier cleanup (optional).
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the air fryer or oven.
